Google Voice continues to provide free domestic calls through 2013. Most of the time, it seems that “Google” is synonymous with “good news.” This gem of happiness comes straight from their official blog. Thank you, Google.

After all, who doesn’t like free anything, especially free phone?

Google Voice makes it too easy.

There are several reasons why Google Voice rocks. Number one, it’s free. Zilch. Zero. Nada. You can even pick up your own phone number for absolutely free. Plus, it’s convenient. If you use Gmail, you also have Google Voice. In fact, it’s kind of hard to miss. Just click the phone icon in the left column. What’s more, if you want to make calls overseas, no problem. Chat with your colleague in India for two cents a minute (yeah, that’s “two” as in 2: one, two), or call France for a paltry dime a minute. These international rates are killer, considering that Google Voice’s voIP cousins are charging double for the same. Google Voice has taken the headache and heartache out of phone service and phone rates.

Isn’t Skype free, too?

Skype is a giant in the voIP industry. Every hour, millions of people place and receive Skype calls. Skype is great as far as it goes, but Google Voice makes things even easier. For one, you don’t have to have a separate program to use it. From your Gmail inbox, a phone call is a click away. No unique ID needed.

Who wants to use their computer to make phone calls?

Lest you think that you’ve got to be tied to a computer to place and receive Google phone calls, think again. Google Voice is a thing of wonder on smartphones. Whatever platform you’re on, Google Voice is ready for you, and the quality is not too bad. Yep, you can even make free Google Voice phone calls on your…well, your phone, of course.

Google Voice is pure awesomeness.

Part of the appeal of Google Voice is that it comes stacked with sick features like voicemail transcription, personalized greetings, SMS to email, call blocking, call screening, conference calls, and even number porting. It’s telephone heaven. Okay, you’ll have a couple of dropped calls here and there (maybe), but overall, it’s heavenly.

Businesses need phone service, and they pay a pretty penny for it. Right now, the voIP industry is worth more than $15 billion. That’s a lot of pelf. For the penny-pinching small business, Google Voice is watching out for you. You may need to scale up to some expensive phone service eventually, but in the smalltime meantime you need not shell out lots of money.

And, no, Google didn’t pay us to say all those nice things. I mean, c’mon, it’s free.
